What You Should Know About Dental Sealants

You know that it’s important for you and your child to brush and floss your teeth regularly—especially if you’re interested in protecting the health of your teeth. However, do you ever wonder if there’s anything else you could do to protect the health of your teeth? If you have, you may want to consider the benefits of dental sealants.

As you may know, sealants are useful because they keep food and bacteria out of hard-to-clean areas of your teeth. Typically, sealants are placed in your back molars because they can be hard to reach. If you have sealants placed, you may prevent cavities and could help your teeth stay stronger for years to come.

But how do you know if sealants are right for you? Typically, children–specifically children between six and twelve years old–are the best candidates. However, anyone with healthy teeth can also be a good candidate. In addition, if your teeth are weak, our team may recommend sealants in an effort to save your teeth.

Sealants can last for many years, especially if they’re cared for well. But sealants should not take the place of regular brushing and flossing.
